Our design for a green accent wall
Picking out paint for our green accent wall was based on the flooring that we had. The shade of green had to stand out from the flooring, so we chose a dark green for the accent wall.
The design of the room was based around a dining room with a farmhouse-style interior design.
The dark green paint color is called ‘Inverness Green’ from Sherwin Williams.
If you are searching for something with a pattern, take a look at the wallpaper that is available, with hints of green for your accent wall.
We have paired the dark green accent wall up with a bright white to give a good contrast.
Some dining rooms are not excessive, so painting the whole room a dark green will make the room look smaller.
How to mask off and paint an accent wall.
Begin by masking off the area you’ll be painting. Use painter’s tape to create a clean edge and protect the surrounding walls from paint splatters.
Painting
Next, prime the wall with a green primer. This will help the paint color pop and ensure even coverage.
Once the primer is dry, begin painting the wall with your green paint. Use a brush or roller to apply the paint in even strokes.
Allow the paint to dry completely before removing the painter’s tape. Admire your work and enjoy your new accent wall!
Adding wood tones through furniture
To add more contrast to our space and green accent wall, we incorporate the tones through our choice of furniture.
The table
Obviously, this room needs a table and chairs. Focussing on a farmhouse-style design, we selected a wood table as part of our decor.
This particular table brings a touch of nature to your space and is a very classic design.
The table features natural knots, splits, and small imperfections, which adds to its rustic and farmhouse look. The table comfortably seats six people and has solid block wood legs.
The dimensions of the table are 58.5″W x 35.5″ D x 30″H, and it is available in two colors – deep coffee or maple brown.
Very reasonably priced at $229, this will be ample for family dinners and small dinner parties.
The chairs
Our green accent wall ideas now feature natural browns, dark green, and white. Gray is a color that complements a huge range of other colors, so we are going to incorporate this in the form of the chairs.
As the table is very solid and natural, we are going to soften the look with four comfy chairs that are padded.
This particular chair is a barrel chair and features four beech legs. The curved armrests and sturdy backrests make it ideal for comfort when dining.
The chairs are available in three different colors such as beige, charcoal, and obviously the gray that we have featured in our design.
The chair is tufted and covered in linen and can be purchased for $155 each.
Green accent wall buffet
Sticking with the farmhouse style for storage solutions, we incorporated a buffet to contrast against the dark green accent wall.
The cabinet is a rustic walnut color and has four doors for storing your cutlery, dishes, and glasses.
Suitable for a TV
Behind the buffet, there are four cable holes should you have any electrical cords you wish to hide – very useful if you want to use this buffet in your family area to stand a TV on.
There are two adjustable shelves, and the legs of the cabinet bring it 3.5 inches off the floor. Measurements are 59″ L x 15.7″ W x 31.5″ H and priced at a very reasonable $215.
Lighting – both moody and bold
There is nothing worse than trying to eat your food in a space that has substandard lighting.
A room needs good lighting for when you are eating and accent lighting for sitting in the room after dinner and relaxing with a drink or two.
These rustic ceiling lights make a stunning statement above a table and work well with the farmhouse style.
Each chandelier is compatible with different bulbs, such as LED, CFL, or incandescent. The globe has three light rings and is 15 inches in diameter, hung on a 5ft cord finished in bronze paint.
What is an incandescent bulb?
An incandescent bulb is a type of light bulb that uses electricity to produce light. The filament inside the bulb is heated by the electric current, which causes it to glow.
Incandescent bulbs are used in a variety of applications, including table lamps, floor lamps, and overhead lighting.
While they are not as energy-efficient as LED bulbs, they are still a popular choice for many people because of their warm light and affordable price.
Green accent wall floor standing lamp
Standing at 6 feet and fully assembled, this floor lamp features a number of shelves and an LED torchiere lighting system.
The four shelves are very sturdy, and you can display small plants or any collectible items on them.
The floor lamp also has three levels of brightness that are controlled by a foot switch. Either has a bright glow when making drinks next to the buffet or turn it down for a more cozy atmosphere.
The lamp will fit perfectly next to the buffet and will give a nice glow on your new dark green accent wall.
Soft furnishings and accent wall
Curtains or blinds always dress a window or even a patio door. They can shut out the harsh lights and make the room cozy.
To dress our windows, we picked up on the gray from the chairs and incorporated it into a pair of curtains.
A pewter grey heavy curtain made from linen will give your room a touch of luxury and tone down the wood tones and your green accent wall.
These curtain panels are not lined but do come with a 3-inch pocket for easy hanging. Priced at $72 per panel.
How to hang curtains?
First, measure the width of your window and the length of your curtain panel.
Next, use a drill to create holes for your curtain rod. The number of holes will depend on the size and weight of your curtains.
Once the holes are drilled, insert your curtain rod and secure it in place with screws.
Hang on the rod and adjust them to the desired length. Use a steamer to remove any wrinkles.
A modern rug to complement the gray
It is not necessary to have a rug in a dining room, but I think it does add some texture, contrast, and color and breaks up the floor and green accent wall. Wood floors can be quite unforgiving, cold, and a little boring.
Our featured rug has a distressed look and is available in various shapes, sizes, and colors.
The rug is pet and child friendly and just needs to be vacuumed regularly and spot-clean should you suffer a mishap, although the manufacturer does state it is stain resistant and fade-resistant.
Place under the table to add alternative color to the green accent wall and wood tones and create a focal point. The price for an 8 x 10 size rug is $177.
How to spot clean a polypropylene rug
Dry stains
First, identify the type of stain you are dealing with. If it is a dry stain, such as dirt or sand, vacuum the area to remove as much of the debris as possible.
Wet stains
If the stain is wet, blot it with a clean white cloth to absorb as much of the liquid as possible. Do not rub the stain, as this will only spread it.
Once the excess liquid has been removed, treat the stain with a carpet cleaner or upholstery cleaner. Follow the instructions on the product label.
Allow the cleaner to dry, then vacuum the area to restore the pile of the rug.
Final touches and accents to green accent wall ideas
Abstract artwork
A large expanse of dark green accent wall really does need something bold to make it a great focal point. You can add artwork or a different piece of wall decor to achieve this.
Inspiration can be found on Pinterest, Google, or even Etsy; buy something that appeals to you or try your hand at DIY and make your own pieces.
We found a very attractive piece of artwork that has been painted in dark green, pale green, browns, creams, and other warm colors.
This piece of artwork has been created on canvas and measures 40 x 40 inches. This is a handmade item, so the price is slightly higher than what you would pay for a printed piece of art.
Available for $663 and definitely another focal point in the space.
Faux flowers for decor
Bringing a touch of nature into the space in the form of faux flowers for the buffet and white contrast against the green accent wall.
The flowers are around 12cm in height but do not include the vase.
Faux green tree
A 7-foot Sakaki artificial tree stands in front of our windows for added greenery.
The tree stands an impressive seven feet tall and has a leaf count of 1,862 leaves. No water is needed for this green addition, and it is well designed to make it look life-like in appearance.
How to clean a faux tree
Start by dusting the leaves with a soft cloth. You can also use a feather duster to reach the hard-to-reach areas.
If the tree is particularly dirty, you may need to wash it with mild soap and water. Be sure to rinse the soap off completely afterward.
Allow the tree to air dry completely before putting it back in its place.
Table decor for a cozy setting
Our final piece for our green accent wall ideas is a set of candles for the middle of the table.
These candles make a beautiful centerpiece and add to the accent lighting in the room.
The wooden pillar candle holder set is in three varying heights. The wood grain shows through the paint wash of white and is perfect for farmhouse styles or coastal designs.
The candle holders are suitable for LED candles or pillar candles and stand at 6.3 inches, 7.9 inches, and 9.4 inches. There are felt pads at the base of each holder to protect any furniture from scratches and damage.
The final design for a green accent wall
The total cost for our green accent wall design comes in at just under $2,500. The artwork was the most expensive choice at $663, so you could reduce the whole look for less than $1,800.
