In this blog post, we will show you how to create a brown accent wall in your living room.
We will provide tips and tricks for choosing the right color, hanging pictures, and more. So read on for all the information you need to get started!
Tips on how to choose the perfect brown paint for your wall
- Think about the overall look you want to achieve. Do you want a warm and inviting space or a more modern and sleek look?
- Consider the other colors in the room. What accent colors will you use?
- Choose a color that compliments your furniture and decor.
Now that you’ve chosen the perfect color, it’s time to get started!
What colors coordinate with a brown accent wall?
Warm colors such as red, orange, and yellow will create a cozy and inviting space.
Cool colors such as blue and green will give the room a more modern feel, such as this Acacia Haze by Sherwin Williams.
Neutrals such as white, cream, black, and grey can be used to accentuate the brown or blend in with the rest of the room.
Our choice for the brown accent wall
There is a good selection from Behr, Benjamin Moore, and Sherwin Williams if you are looking for a nice dark brown for your walls.
Our choice is from Sherwin Williams and is called French Roast.
Add further accents with wood paneling.
Brown walls are a good base for wood paneling. Not only will wood panels give the room more texture, but they will add another accent to the chocolate brown wall.
You can purchase pre-made wood panels online or design your own. Plan your design out on paper and measure your walls so that when cutting your wood, you won’t make any mistakes.

Pairing the accent walls with furniture
The brown sofa
Our inspiration for this small living room is modern mid-century. We wanted to incorporate furniture that had a rich color to complement the decor and also keep the budget to a minimum.
Our pop of color is in the form of a tan sofa.
This genuine brown leather sofa is filled with high-density foam and fits into many styles, like mid-century modern, industrial, and boho. See our styles explained for more details on these types of styles.
This design will look great in an apartment, small living room, or loft area.
The sofa does come in a variety of colors and can be easily cleaned with non-abrasive cleaning products. Priced at $1,890.20
Natural colored accent chairs
For additional seating and for an extra pop against the brown walls, we selected two accent chairs in a contrasting color.
Again, we added contrast and extra color here. The accent chairs are designed in the style of old-fashioned luxury.
The chrome-finished tubing combined with the tufted seated cushion brings together a really smart-looking chair.
The chairs measure about 26 inches in width, and the seating area has thick padding. Priced at $284.52 each.
If you have a small apartment or small living room but need extra seating for guests, consider floor bean bags that you can pull out when you need to.
Add a TV cabinet for entertainment.
The majority of living rooms have a TV for the family to enjoy or couples to chill out in front of after a long day at work.
Not only have we accounted for a media cabinet in our design, we have also included the cost of a small 40-inch television.
The cabinet
A traditional mid-century cabinet with plenty of storage and the perfect color to make an impact against your brown walls.
This piece of furniture is sturdy and built to last and measures 43 inches in length, and stands 19 inches high.
There is plenty of room for your video equipment and gaming devices on the shelves and plenty of space in the interior, and there are two holes at the back to thread your cables through. Price $119.99
TV for your enjoyment
If you are on a tight budget, you won’t go wrong with this TV, which is very well priced and has plenty of additional extras.
The Roku TV has built-in Wi-Fi and fast search with a decent picture.
The TV features game mode and surround sound, and it also works with Google Assistant.
This is a Smart TV and measures 40 inches so that it will fit neatly on your TV cabinet in front of your brown walls. Priced at just $178.

What is Google Assistant?
Google Assistant is a voice-activated assistant that allows you to perform tasks on your phone, such as making calls, sending texts, setting alarms, and more.
You can also ask it questions about the weather, sports scores, traffic conditions, and more.
Google Assistant is available on all Android phones running Android Marshmallow or higher.
To activate Google Assistant, simply say “OK Google” or hold down the home button on your phone. You can also activate it by long-pressing the app icon in your app drawer.
Once you’ve activated Google Assistant, you can start using it by saying commands or asking questions. For example, you can say, “Call mom,” “What’s the weather like today?” or “Find me an Italian restaurant.”
Google Assistant will understand and respond to your requests. You can also use it to control smart devices in your home, such as lights, thermostats, and more.
Add a coffee table to your living room.
I like to add a coffee table, side table, or cabinet in all of my rooms as you always need somewhere to put your drinks, books, and glasses.
Our X-shaped metallic cocktail table has attractive gold sturdy legs and, again, will work in small apartments or living rooms. The top is MDF covered in a dark walnut laminate and is warp resistant.
The table stands around 19 inches and 36 inches in length. Price $102.
Lighting for your brown walls
With such a dark brown color, we want to ensure that we have enough lighting.
For our interior design, we have incorporated two versions of lights. Our ceiling light and a floor-standing accent light.
The ceiling light
Again, we are sticking to a mid-century modern design and have selected a ceiling light that has a brass finish.
The light has three frosted glass fixtures in a sputnik formation held on gold iron.
The light has been designed so it spreads a romantic glow rather than a dazzling light in your room. Price: $159.98.

The living room decor and accents
A pillow or two in contrasting colors
To contrast against our tan-colored sofa, we added two pillows in faux leather.
The pillowcase is very easy to clean and dry and is in a chocolate brown color. Priced at $11.97 each – just for the cover, but the insert is not included. Hopefully, you have your own.
More texture and color come in our white pillows. These include the inserts, but you cannot remove the covers, and they can only be spot cleaned.
The white pillows have a fringe finish, are filled with polyester, and measure 20 x 20 inches. Price $10.89 each.
Sheepskin rug for the floor
A 2ft by 5 ft rug in white sheepskin will add a luxury touch to any wood floor and soften the dark brown walls.
Not only will your living room feel and look cozy, but it will have to add an elegant touch. The price for this particular size rug is $162.60
Add a painting for a pop of color.
Our orange, gray, and white abstract pieces of art will certainly make a statement on our dark brown walls.
This piece of art is a print on canvas, and the shades of colors will certainly complement all of the pieces within our living room.
The frame itself has been hand-stretched and is color resistant. Price $69.99
Our final design with a dark brown wall
The total cost for our design comes in at an amazing $3,400, which even includes the TV. The paint, flooring, and wood paneling are all obviously extra and should be priced accordingly depending on the size of your living room.
